FAQs
Can I sign up for the Smartphone Licence Progam if my child already has a phone?
Yes absolutely! While it may be challenging we believe that even if you’re child has a smartphone with a few good honest conversations, and some help from us you will be able to get them on board with the program
Are there other resources out there to support me as a parent when it comes to the issue of smartphones?
Yes there are. We feel privileged to be just one of the many positive contributors to this space. Some other resources we would recommend are
- Netsafe
- Safesurfer
- Light Project
Can I register a child/young person for the Smartphone Licence Program if I am not their legal guardian?
The Smartphone Licence Program by design does not operate unless the child/young person and their parents or caregivers or the adult they live with are all on board together. It is not recommended that an adult registers a child/young person they are not the legal guardian of, or without the parent/guardians permission
Can I use the Smartphone Licence Program if I am a social worker or caring for another parent’s child/young person? Or what happens if I co-parent?
Yes yes and a thousand more yeses! We’re so glad you asked that question. In fact a large part of the programs design was with social workers in mind! If you are the primary social worker for a child/young person then you are able to register and act as the parent/guardian and sign the Restricted Smartphone Licence contract with the child on your caseload. Or if you are a foster parent/caregiver you are also able to act in this capacity.
WITH THAT SAID IT HIGHLY ENCOURAGED THAT ALL THE ADULTS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CARE OF A CHILD ARE ON THE SAME PAGE AND HAVE INPUT INTO THE RESTRICTED LICENCE CONTRACT WHERE POSSIBLE
